The Ghost Town Near Yoder
From what I remember back about 55 years ago, Yoder, Kansas, is the town just south of Hutchinson, Kansas, where the Mennonites lived. These were people who didn't believe in electricity, still traveled by horse and buggy, wore long gowns and didn't trust in banks so they buried
their money underground.
(According to the emails I have received regarding this story,
all this might have all changed by now.)Yoder is just a tiny community but shows up on most maps. Travellers have reported coming upon a town close to Yoder that was vacant ~ with cars from the 1940s parked everywhere ~ a car collector's dream town!
Many of the doors to the stores, houses and cars are wide open. After looking around for someone to say hello to, none of these reported travellers were able to find a living soul. They must have thought they were in the Twilight Zone ~ and after hearing the stories I've heard about this town ~ I think so, too.
One traveler who reported this story to me, a musician in Hollywood, California, said that he just returned to his car after getting a bad feeling and getting out of there to hurry to the next town. When he arrived at the next town, he stopped at the first bar he saw to have a drink and tell someone what he had seen. After he ordered his drink, he asked someone next to him, 'What's the story on the town he just passed through, why the old cars, and where are the people!?!' The fellow just had to get the rest of the gang in on it and was happy to have the traveller there to tell his story, which he proceeded to tell ~ because the fellow he was talking to had also seen the town and nobody at the bar had ever believed him.
When they first heard the story and went looking for the town, nobody could find it ~ but it's there ~ somewhere near Yoder ~ probably in another dimension ~ because travellers who have seen it ask about it time and again.
